To assist in the treatment of rosacea, a scale indicating the type of rosacea has been developed and five subtypes of rosacea appear on this scale. The first subtype and the most common is erythematotelangiectatic rosacea. This is characterized by persistent redness and flushing. Broken capillaries in the face, sometimes known as telangiectasias may also be present. Ranked in order from mild to severe, additional symptoms experienced are stinging and burning sensations as well as roughness over the skin. Generally when one thinks of rosacea, the symptoms displayed by erythematotelangiectatic rosacea are what they typically think of.
Treatment for erythematotelangiectatic rosacea includes controlling the triggers, oral, topical and laser or IPL therapy. In mild cases, gentle anti-inflammatory topical products can be applied along with sunscreens. Sometimes the medication is not enough to clear up the tiny red blood vessels. When this is the case, a very effective treatment is the pulse dye laser or IPL. Often two to four weeks are needed for any treatment to see effective results. Some cases may even require up to two months for effective results. Since there is no cure for rosacea and it is a progressive disease, the condition will worsen without treatments. |
